Hey folks
New book!
Following the release of my first book, The Awesome adventures of Captain Doodle, I have really caught the illustration bug. I have just had my draft text for a new book I am writing and illustrating back from being refereed which is great,
I had some fantastic positive feedback and some great constructive feedback on where it can be improved or changed (which is the best kind really) so I can begin on the second edit of the text. This book is (working title) ‘When the world feels too big’, which I have spoken about on here before. This is a mental health book for kids 5-9. Here is some of the art and text as it stands at the moment:

Sometimes I feel crunchy and anxious and down in the stinky yucky rubbish dumps. It is just there, sitting in my tummy and my heart like a stupid heavy sad moon. But, do you know what, I think that’s fine. It feels yucky, but I try and say to myself ITS OKAY NOT TO FEEL OKAY no matter what is or isn’t going on around us and in the world
Themes
In regard to the illustration for this book, I am using a theme of circular kaleidoscope patterns through out, you can see them in the illustration above as the pattern on the moon and, more subtly, in the blowing leaves from the trees.
This is to represent the world, everyone in the world has mental health and even on the worst days, the world keeps turning. – that is picked up on later in the story. It also represents that sometimes our mental health issues can be cyclic in nature. and perhaps, are influenced by the world around us.

In this illustration, the planet is drawn on a sphere and the kaleidoscope is in the sun and sky.
This is really fun and I am hoping to get it finished by early summer. I am trying to figure out how to make it free so it (hopefully) can help as many children as possible,
I am trained in graphic design, so I can design and typeset the book completely through to printing proofs from start to finish myself rather than having an editor do it for me. This training means I am also able to 100% make ebooks myself ready to publish which will save potentially a lot of money, and the marketing material to go with it.
If you would like to keep track of how I am getting on, then please do follow me on my author and illustrator facebook page here
Anyhow, Thanks for popping by and take care
