A Portrait of my cat – Lady Lollifer fart face – Digital Drawing Project 2020 (because a cat in period costume will ALWAYS be better than my own face)

Artist statement

Hello! I am an abstract mixed-media artist, serial ponderer and music lover.  I work from my home studio in Swindon Wiltshire.

Art is awesome. I studied art at school and at the Bournemouth and Poole Art Institute in the UK. From here my interest in art really got going, I am mostly self-taught and tend to experiment with styles and mediums to push myself further to learn more and develop as an artist.

The way that light dances with shadows and how color and form can invoke a feeling has always fascinated me. I strive to add a bit of color and to capture some of the beauty wonder and silliness of the everyday. We live on a sphere of endless possibilities which is a tremedous thing.

About my art

My works are mixed media. They develop as I build on the definition and color tones. Once the layers emerge I pick out the detail and run with it. I am particularly fond of flowers, trees and birds as well as geeky and stupid things.

I adapt my work to explore the relationship between the artwork and the music am listening to as I go. My music taste is definately eclectic, I am influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Sigar Ros, Flaming Lips, Smashing Pumpkins and DJ Shadow. I also like  90s trip-hop, particually artists like Tricky, Massive Attack, Portishead and Aim. Some of my works are cover versions of songs or playlists. What I paint and draw depends on how they sound. It sounds cliche, but the music kind of guides me and I cant create as well without it.

I started this site as a wee place to bring it all together 🙂

I sometimes do online exhibitions and have taken my work to schools to discuss art, creativity, and inspiration with the children which was fabulous. I have illustrated a childrens book called Captain Doodle which was published in Autumn 2020. He is a book pirate who I hope will inspire kids to create their own stories. I am currently writing and illustrating my own book, When the world feels too big which I hope will help kids understand their mental health a bit better and gives some tips on navigating it.

Thank you for stopping by and please do get in touch if you would like to, I would love to hear from you.

Take Care
