Hello lovelies
So, if you are a regular meander-erer on here then you have probably guessed that I have a fancy for a mirrored, mandala, kaleidoscopey doodling’s.
I have recently pushed the boat out and upped my segment count on a square, and this has sparked, what could be, probably the most pointless art installation ever known to human kind.
I like crochet, I do crochet (a lot less often as I would like), and, as it happens, I am also rather partial to having a blanket on my lap of a cold eve (hardcore I know) soooooooooooooooo……. I have mashed these two unrelated things together in my head and the kaleidoscopes have become odes to crocheted granny squares.
Once I get bored of making the squares (it could be a while) I am going to join them together to create a digital granny square crochet blanket. There is no point to this at all except that it pleases my brain. Hurrah (I know its dumb).
Wool is magnificent.
So, I did some research, and here’s what I found about the world record for the biggest actual crochet blanket:
The largest crochet blanket is 17,188.57 m² (185,016 ft²) and was made by 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, the Department of Correctional Services and the Nelson Mandela Foundation (all South Africa), as measured in Western Cape, South Africa, on 22 April 2016. (taken from the Guinness book of records website, March 2021).
I am going to work out how to equate that into PPI (Pixels per inch) and see if I can get a Guinness world record for the largest DIGITAL crochet blanket. There will be alot of maths involved, and I suspect I will have to teach myself to covert JPEGs into Vector images for each granny square as vector images can be scaled up and down to any size….. or …… I should do them at normal granny square size shouldn’t I? which dependant on the thickness of your wool and hook, can be anywhere between 7-12 inches square. I will settle on 12 x 12 inches as that’s a foot and I have the size in square foot for the physical blanket above. Easy peasy.
Basically, I would need to create a minimum of 185,016 granny square patterns to equal this record of woolly goodness from the physical realm.
In the last half hour I have now decided that this is my life’s work and I will apply for a world record for, the largest digital crochet blanket….. Any ideas what software would except such crazy? I wonder if In design would work?
What size computer will I need to run the blanket? how much RAM. would I need my computer to have so it would open, let alone render and be able to be worked on?
Anyhoo, Here’s the 5 I have done so far (yay). Only 185,011 left to go!

Take care
Rahford
